The California Theatre in downtown San Jose is a restored theater originally built in the late 1920's. During the ho
lidays, they show old movies for five bucks with free popcorn. Last year we saw "My Fair Lady" and last night we watched "Funny Girl." How often do you get to see Audrey Hepburn or Barbra Streisand on the big screen? Pretty amazing. "Swiss Family Robinson" is showing also, a Hoggan family classic. The screen has curtains that open and close in front of it, and during intermission (yes, there is an intermission) a big ivory organ rises from the orchestra pit up to stage level and this old guy plays the organ for everybody. A really cool theater experience, complete with red velvet seats and ushers.
